The Study on Flood and Debris Flow in the Caspian Coastal Area Focusing on the Flood-hit Region in Golestan Province, Caspian Coastal Area, Iran, Tokyo, Japan, Tehran
In response to the 2001 flood and debris flow in the Madarsoo river basin, a Flood and Debris Flow Control Master Plan was initiated. The project, crucial for safeguarding an international corridor and a sacred Shiite Muslim site, involved setting up the MIKE SHE hydrological model and MIKE11 simulation model. This facilitated analysis of extreme rainfalls, determination of design rainfalls and high-water levels, and the creation of flood hazard maps. The impact of flood regulation structures on peak reduction was assessed, and damages from past floods in the Madarsoo River were reviewed. The project aimed to enhance risk mitigation and preparedness, emphasizing the need for impact-based flood early warning systems in the region.
