Preparing the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Flood and Drought Risk Management and Mitigation Project (ADB TA 6456-REG) in Vientiane, Laos
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) initiated a Regional Technical Assistance (RETA) project aimed at developing comprehensive roadmaps and identifying priority investment projects for Flood and Drought Risk Management and Mitigation in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS). This undertaking involved a strategic approach to address the challenges posed by flood and drought events across the GMS countries, including Cambodia, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. The RETA project focused on conducting thorough assessments of flood and drought risks, analyzing vulnerability factors, and identifying appropriate mitigation measures tailored to the specific needs and conditions of each country within the GMS. By formulating these roadmaps and prioritizing investment projects, ADB aimed to enhance the resilience of the GMS region to the adverse impacts of floods and droughts, ultimately contributing to sustainable development and improved livelihoods for communities in the area.
